1. "Together We Can." Youth Against Aids In South Africa
This 55-minute documentary, highlighting how South Africans from all walks
of
life are attempting to address the AIDS Epidemic, was released at the United
Nations General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS (UNGASS). The
documentary
produced by Synergy Films, with support from United Nations Television and
the
UNAIDS Intercountry Team, pays tribute to work being done by community
workers,
peer educators, traditional healers and care providers. This film provides a
number of examples of actions that can be undertaken in developing
programmes
aimed at supporting young people to become involved in the campaign against
HIV/AIDS. Copies of the film may be ordered by contacting Richard
Delate,
Information and Media Strategist, UNAIDS Intercountry Team. Email:
rdelate@un.org.za or by telephone 27

2. Educational kit for Rwanda
Through the Training of AIDS Educators Project in Kigali, the Jerusalem AIDS
project has produced a special educational kit for youth, with flipcharts
and
manuals, tailored for Rwandan culture and needs. Produced in French, the kit
was
compiled in cooperation with the National AIDS Program and the Ministry of
Education of Rwanda, and the Israeli MASHAV program. For more information,
please contact Mrs Hanni Rosenberg: Fax: +972 2 6797737 or Nurit Ravid,
Jerusalem AIDS project, E-mail: jaipisrael@yahoo.com.
3. World Bank funds for West Africa
The World Bank has recently approved two interest-free credits supporting
the
fight against HIV/AIDS in West Africa: the HIV/AIDS Program Development
Project
in Nigeria (US$90.3 million) and the HIV/AIDS Disaster Response Project in
Burkina Faso (US$ 22 million). The projects are part of the World Bank's US$
500
million Multi-country HIV/AIDS Program for Africa (MAP). Both countries have
developed a strategic approach to HIV/AIDS in a participatory fashion and
established high-level HIV/AIDS coordinating bodies. For more
information check
the World Bank website at www. worldbank.org/aids.
4. AMICAALL mission to Namibia
The Alliance of Mayors' Initiative for Community Action on AIDS at the Local
Level (AMICAALL) was developed in collaboration with the Alliance of Mayors
and
Municipal Leaders on HIV/AIDS in Africa, UNDP and UNAIDS and with financial
support from USAID and the Netherlands. The Alliance was launched in
l998 with
the key objective of promoting partnerships between local governments and
civil
society, including the private sector and community organisations, to
support
the national response to HIV/AIDS. In June 2001, meetings were held in
Windhoek,
Namibia to formalize the agreement with the Government of Namibia to host
the
Alliance secretariat. The headquarters of the Alliance will be in
Windhoek,
with a sub-office in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. The UN AMICAALL Partnership
Programme will provide short term services of administrative and
communications
staff and assist with resource mobilisation. It is expected that the
secretariat
will be inaugurated in October. For more information, please contact Mina
